Why do we forget the old tracks?

Good question, maybe its because we are bombarded with pure shit nowadays... maybe,  I just don't know... So I'm sitting here digging through 105 GB of music thinking to myself, why haven't I listened to this track in years? We've all complained about music sucking lately and its true, but instead of whining why not just listen to the tracks that made you fall in love with this genre in the first place?
Some of these tracks aren't even that old, a few years to say the least... but they have definitely been forgotten about and thats a shame! Let these lame producers continue to make shit music for the 12 year olds... Heres a little list of tracks I dug up, gems and I'm hooked! So if you're bored of what DJ's are playing nowadays, make yourself a NEW playlist of OLD tracks!

Leave comments on YOUR favorite old school tracks that I might have missed, I compiled together a little bit of everything

Hope you guys enjoy!

Fun ways to discover/re-discover music

I guarantee over 50% of my life has been spent listening to music. Like most music fanatics out there, we know that this isn't a waste of time, but more like "research" for us. My three favorite ways of discovering music is sharing with friends, hearing the newest tracks by going out and partying (great excuse right ;-) ) and re-discovering older tracks by digging through old music files. I wanted to write this post to showcase 3 tracks specifically. After you guys are done reading this, I highly recommend taking a couple of minutes to youtube the songs and let me know what you think. I wanted to wish everyone a great 2012 and thank you so much for reading this! Cheers :)

LOST- Greenville Massive was  sent to me from a good friend of mine named Sarthak. I think out of any person I've ever known or spoken to, Sar is one of the few who actually understands quality and value of music. He's so intelligent and his desire to share is like no other. Thanks to him I discovered this track and what can I say? I'm speechless.... Those who've driven in the car with me, know I switch the track every 30 seconds bc. I get bored of it. I first listened to this track on repeat 4 times... ITS THIRTEEN MINUTES LONG! Needless to say, this track is musical brilliance. People should remember that when you discover tracks this good, the best thing to do is share them with those you know will appreciate them! Thanks Sar!! follow him at @RedDevil09

Moan (Radio Slave remix)- Trentemoller  This track takes me right back to 2007... I guess I was a junior in high school at the time. I have over a decade's worth of obsession for discovering and downloading tracks and always having music that nobody else had. I would sit on myspace for hours at a time and dig through different artists music pages. (sad I know...)  This song popped up and instantly drew me in. I wasn't sure what I was hearing, but I knew I didn't want it to stop.  Back then I didn't understand what I hear now. The lyrics are so deep, her vocals and the chops are amazing. The production is genius, that violin bit... oh my gosh i can keep going! sooooo good! This is the time to go through old files and re-discover those tracks that could have a new impact on you, just as this did to me!

Jungle Drums (Tom Middleton 3D Dub) - The Modwheel This track I just recently heard when my friends and I decided to go see Dubfire at District 36 in NYC. That night I drank a little and remember sobering up and wanting to leave for some weird reason. My friends convinced me to stay an extra 20 minutes or so, and all of a sudden this track comes on. I look at the time and it's way passed 5am, the dance floor is packed and I'm just about going nuts trying to find out what this track is. On the sound system it sounded like the craziest thing I've ever heard and I remember thinking how worth it staying extra was just because I discovered this track. Going to clubs for shows or events out of your comfort zone is what I'm suggesting here. Instead of seeing a mainstream artist check out local talent, or discover something knew. Thats the beauty of how much music and artists that we have access to!

My top 25 of 2011

2011, the year my perception of life completely changed. This year was so insane! For over ten years of my life I dreamt of going to Ultra Music Festival and this year I went for the first time. Instead of dreaming, I started believing that all of this will happen to me and it did. I met my hero Laidback Luke countless times, made so many new friends because of music and for the first time in my life was sure of myself and decisions.  People's doubt is what pushed me as far as I have come.

Now, let's talk music! There have been THOUSANDS of festivals, tens of thousands of tracks and releases and millions of fans worldwide. All serving  each other the same exact purpose, the love and unity of dance music.  We are currently building a new history! So what I've come up with, are my favorite tracks of 2011. Theres been so much music this year and so many hidden gems, that I decided to go with the most "popular" or what tracks I felt really stood out from the rest. Hope all of my EDM Family enjoys! Feel free to comment opinions or if you agree/disagree. I love chatting with the educated.

For all of you who "only like house" or "only like trance" I challenge you to be a little more open minded. Discover new things and don't be tied down to just one style of music. I hope everyone becomes more open minded in 2012 and more accepting of different styles. Music, especially EDM shouldn't be a popularity contest...who cares what someone else DOESNT like...its about what you love! Happy Holidays and a very healthy New Year to all!

Cheers!

Tiesto 2.0

Hi all, and thanks for checking out my blog!
Its been a while since I've written and I genuinely miss it! Writing keeps me sane and lets me express my feelings perfectly without actually yelling at anyone (haha) Even if nobody is currently reading this, writing for myself is all I need.
Towards the end of December I will be posting my top 20 again this year and I can't wait to go through all of my 2011 music and narrow them down. Last year I got a huge response from all my twitter peeps, so I am really excited to do it again! This year however, I will do it a bit differently. Instead of doing a top 20 trance list and a top 20 house list, I am choosing to do a top 20 EDM list. This year I have completely branched out of what I would typically listen to, and fell in love with minimal, techno, tech house...and just all sub genres of EDM! I was pretty disappointed with trance this year, as most of it didn't really excite me as much, but there definitely have been some massive tracks this year, I know selecting just 20 will be really hard.
So.. this weekend I saw Tiesto live, and haven't seen him since 2010 so I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. I kept listening to all the people hating on him, and I hated on him too because of that. "He's not trance anymore" "After his Kaleidoscope album, he turned to pop/house" etc. etc. What I have come to realize is that times change and so do people! HE'S NOT TRANCE ANYMORE...WHO CARES?! He played an incredible 3 hour set and I had a great time with amazing people! He did drop a few classics (love comes again, silence, lethal industry...to name a few) Overall, I was really happy with the night. Going in knowing to expect all bangers, I left extremely satisfied.  I hope soon, people will get over the fact that artists change... there is nothing wrong with experimentation or wanting to do something else. In fact, I now look up to those who try new things. Just like people who only loving trance, or only love rock music.... don't be a slave to your genre. It's almost 2012 people... expand yourselves!

Is planning out your life the best option?

Creating goals and setting a high standard toward your life could potentially be the first step that it takes to become successful in the future right? In my opinion, it is wise to just think about what you want to do with the rest of your life and where exactly you are headed but... is it necessary to absolutely plan every little detail that follows?

When it comes to having an idea of what I want to accomplish for myself, the thoughts become "been there done that" for me. Usually I tend to over think things through. Maybe its time to just go with the flow right? Attending Full Sail University has opened up my thoughts completely on my future and the endless career paths that I could take. The world of Music Business is endless beyond what anyone can imagine, and I decided that I will refuse to settle on whatever is thrown at me. I want to be the one who decides where I go and what I do with my life.

So, here is my little plan, and I'm curious to know what others think. After I graduate, I believe the best route for me, would be to hop on the next flight to Amsterdam. I will save enough money to keep me alive there for about two weeks to a month, line up at least half dozen internships or job interviews and see what happens from there. If nobody wants to hire me, or I don't get a job right away then I will simply go home, but at least I could say I experienced something like that. I'm fully confident in my ability to impress and obtain the position of my dreams, but in the end its all about the chase. If I let people bring me down and tell me that I'm crazy for wanting this, then clearly I am not cut out for this industry. Overall my passion will show for itself in my work and I am ready to surprise the world.
